Wednesday, December 5, 2018

The Westchester Township History Museum invites the community to several holiday celebrations they will be hosting in December.

The Westchester Township History Museum invites the community to several holiday celebrations they will be hosting in December.

On Wednesday, December 5 at 2 p.m., join us in the Brown Mansion parlor for an afternoon of caroling around the Hillstrom organ. Learn a little about the history of some beloved carols and join in the festive singing of holiday tunes, all to the accompaniment of the 19th-century Hillstrom organ.

On Saturday, December 8 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., the museum will host a traditional Victorian Christmas party, including caroling and a Christmas story. At 2 p.m. Dot Pakan will lead visitors in Christmas caroling to the accompaniment of the 19th-century Hillstrom organ. At 3 p.m., Rory McMahan will do a reading of a Christmas story. Visitors can also see the temporary exhibit "The Cold War in Duneland" and enjoy some Victorian-era refreshments.

On Sunday, December 9 at 2 p.m., join Jim Nelson for a festive afternoon of Swedish Christmas music and traditions. Jim will sing traditional Swedish Christmas music and tell the tales behind them. Some of the songs will be sung in the Swedish language

Looking for a unique Christmas gift with a local flavor? The Westchester Township History Museum has a gift shop that has Duneland and Indiana themed merchandise; including ornaments, books, posters, jewelry, stoneware and more. Everything in the store is 10% off through Sunday, December 16.

The Westchester Township History Museum is a free cultural and educational service of Westchester Public Library and is open to the public Wednesday – Sunday from 1-5 p.m. or by appointment. The museum is housed in the historic Brown Mansion, located at 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton. For more information call the museum at 983-9715.
