July Teen Programs at WPL

Westchester Public Library has plenty of fun programs planned for teens in grades 6-12 this July. Teens are also welcome to participate in WPL’s Summer Reading Program, which runs until July 15. For more information visit the library or wpl.lib.in.us/summer.

To kick off the month, the Hageman Branch is hosting a Water Balloon Fight on Thursday, July 6, at 5 p.m. Registration is necessary for this program as well as a signed permission slip. Attendees will meet in the field adjacent to the Hageman parking lot. Materials will be supplied by the library.

On Sunday, July 9 the Thomas Branch is holding an after-hours Nerf Battle. Registration is necessary for this program as well as a signed parental permission slip. Materials will be supplied by the library. Attendees will meet at the front lobby of the Thomas Branch at 5:30 p.m.

Those interested in learning more about the art of Manga are welcome to register for a workshop focused on the Japanese comic book style. This program takes place at the Thomas Branch’s Bertha Wood Meeting Room on Wednesday, July 12 and Thursday, July 13, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

“Before I Fall” is the teen film for the month of July and it will be showing at the Baugher Center on Saturday, July 15 at 5 p.m. This film is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 1 hour and 39 minutes.

Maker Mondays returns to the Thomas Branch Computer Classroom on Monday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. Local software engineer, Adam Johnson, will lead a hands-on program about Arduino circuit devices. Registration is necessary and can be done by contacting Jon in the IT Department, 926-7696 or jon@wpl.lib.in.us.

Pizza Pajama Book Club meets in the Thomas Branch’s Young Adult Room on Wednesday, July 19, 7 p.m., to discuss the first novel in the Mortal Instruments series, “City of Bones,” by Cassandra Clare. Pizza will fuel the conversation. PJs are optional, and registration isn’t necessary.

Harry Potter fans, join us in the Thomas Branch’s Bertha Wood Meeting Room on Monday, July 31, beginning at 9:30 a.m. to celebrate Harry and J.K. Rowling’s Birthday. The first four movies of the H.P. series will be showing throughout the day. And of course there will be cake, “words and all.”

Teens in grade 6-12 looking to stay on trend with nail art are welcome to attend Teen Nail Art at the Hageman Branch on Thursday, July 20 at 3 p.m. Miss Sandra will be sharing the latest techniques in nail art. Registration is not required and supplies will be provided by the library.
